The Lord is Among Us

Today’s Reading, Habakkuk 1-3 & Zephaniah 1-3

Focal Scripture: Zephaniah 3:17 “The Lord your God is among you, a warrior who saves. He will rejoice over you with gladness. He will be quiet in his love. He will delight in you with singing.”

I personally like my alone time. I am a person who needs that time to recharge and refresh. It allows me to decompress from social activities. However, when I stop and think about it I know that I am never truly alone because the Spirit of the Lord lives in me.

In today’s reading we cover two books and much ground. In Zephaniah we see that God is pouring out his judgement on the wicked. Even in the midst of this judgement God moves amongst his people and is present. He also serves as a warrior who saves. God will also rejoice over his people in love and singing. God’s presence is so thick that it changes everything. It is noticeable to others.

What is the application to this truth? First, it is to understand that our God is involved in the lives of his people. He knows us, loves us, fights for us, and rejoices with us. As a believer the Holy Spirit lives in us permanently and will never forsake us, even when life becomes difficult. Just as he did not leave the people of Israel he will be with those who love him.

This truth should radically change us everyday. It should spur us to live differently. It should challenge us to please the Lord. It should convict us to be good representatives of our Savior. It should also humble us because the God of the universe has chosen to live inside of us and change us from the inside out.

Know this, you are never alone as a believer. That truth should bring us to our knees and it should also encourage us to the ends of the Earth. Our God is faithful and can be trusted.

Let the promise of his presence get us through our daily lives because the Lord is among us.

Tomorrow I plan on reading Haggai 1-2
