The Lord is Good

Today’s Reading, Nahum 1-3

Focal Scripture: Nahum 1:7 “The Lord is good, a stronghold in a day of distress; he cares for those who take refuge in him.”

Seeing the good in situations can be very difficult for some people. Especially when everything around them seems to be falling apart. However, seeing the good in God reveals what we believe about our theology. Our mindset of God’s goodness will set the stage for our faith journey. If you doubt that God is good you will question everything.

In today’s reading we see in Nahum that destruction is coming to Assyria. God will judge them for their evil acts and will unleash his wrath. We also see in our focal scripture that God is good. That even though enemies may win for a season they will be judged. He will provide a stronghold for people to hold onto when things are difficult. Those who take refuge in the Lord will be taken care of in bad times. We see that the Lord is good.

The application today is simple but difficult. No matter what happens in our life we must hold onto the reality that God is good. When bad things happen, God is good. When we lose a loved one, God is good. Nothing seems to go our way, God is good. Our attitude towards God reveals our faith to others.

I encourage you today to see the good in everything. This mentality will grow your faith and your theology. It will be one of your greatest witnessing tools. Seeing God as good even when life is hostile demonstrates that you take refuge in him.

No matter what you’re going through rejoice in God’s goodness.

Tomorrow I plan on reading Habakkuk 1-3 & Zephaniah 1-3
