The Lord of Heaven and Earth

Today’s Reading, Isaiah 64-66

Focal Scripture: Isaiah 66:1 “This is what the Lord says: Heaven is my throne, and earth is my footstool. Where could you possibly build a house for me? And where would my resting place be?”

Who is in charge around you in your life? I know of some relationships where the woman makes all of the decisions. Then I know of some where the man is the decision maker. How about at work? Even though you might have a boss that allows you to do your job there still has to be a person who makes big decisions and gives guidance to the company. Somebody is in charge, whether or not the leader is good is debatable in most situations.

In today’s reading we clearly see the Lord make a powerful declaration. He says that heaven is his throne and the earth is his footstool. This means he is above all and is the one in charge of everything. The place we live and have never fully explored is where the Lord puts his feet. He then goes on to explain that you can’t build anything for him that would match what he already has in heaven. The Lord is declaring his greatness and so should we everyday.

This verse reminds us that we need to elevate God in our lives to the place he already resides. Unfortunately, we as humans don’t want to be ruled and we definitely don’t like to acknowledge that someone is more powerful than us, when it comes to our life. However, when it comes to God he is the maker of Heaven and Earth. He is the King of the Universe. He is in charge of everything.

So today as you go through life realize who is in control. Submit to his authority and give him all that you have, because he is worthy and he is perfect. Spend less time complaining and more time worshipping. Look to him and be in awe because of his majesty. Surrender your life and to the one who knows what you need.

Wherever you are in your journey remember this truth: since the earth is God’s footstool how mighty must he be compared to what I am facing right now. He has it under control.

Tomorrow, I plan on reading Jeremiah 1-3
