Today’s Reading, Isaiah 40-44
Focal Scripture: Isaiah 43:11-12 “I — I am the Lord. Besides me, there is no Savior. I alone declared, saved, and proclaimed — and not some foreign god among you. So you are my witnesses” — this is the Lord’s declaration — “and I am God.”
Reading scripture gives you many insights. None are probably more important than the prophetic writings. Here in Isaiah we see that judgment will come. We also see that hope comes. This hope will come in the form of a servant. A servant that will redeem the people. A servant that will give his life. A servant that will make reconciliation possible.
In these verses we see that God declared his majesty. In this deceleration he puts to shame foreign Gods. He lets everyone know that he alone can accomplish what seems impossible. When everything is falling apart he will redeem his people and ultimately the world. He is not only the savior but provides himself as the savior.
The application here is mighty. Our savior is revealed. Our savior is not like other gods that are worshipped. We must understand that nothing else is comparable to the Lord we serve. Sometimes it is easy to forget just how majestic God and his works really are in our lives.
As the reading challenged us today to focus on the hope of the Lord we need to be practical in our approach to him. The Israelites knew the truth but lost their awe of God. It became something they did and not something that transformed them. They approached God like he was just like another secular god from Egypt. They missed the point.
The Lord is Our Savior and he changes every aspect of life. He gives immediate and eternal hope.
