The Lord Speaks

Today’s Reading, 1 Kings 6-7

Focal Scripture: 1 Kings 6:11 “The word of the Lord came to Solomon:”

The Lord is always speaking to his people. The question arises are we really listening as individuals. There have been a few moments in life where God spoke to me in very clear and direct ways. The impact of those directives were great and were powerful. They were life changing in every positive way possible. The question that bothers me though is this, “How many times did I miss the Lord speak, before and since?”

In today’s reading Solomon is building the temple. He is doing exactly what the Lord wants him to do with the construction. Then the Lord speaks directly to Solomon. He informs him that if he walks in the Lord’s statutes and keeps the commands, that the promises made to his father David, will be fulfilled. Solomon was ready to listen to the Lord speak.

That is the application for us today. When the Lord speaks are we prepared to listen. Or are we so distracted by what we are doing where we can’t hear the Lord. To put this in perspective Solomon was in the process of the most important building project to date in Israel. However, he wasn’t so distracted that he missed the Lord speak.

I am not sure about you but their have been times in life were my goals have taken my focus off of God. That is the challenge for us today from the reading. Be completely and totally focused on the Lord, regardless of what you have going on in your personal or professional life. When the Lord speaks, we stop and we listen. We take it to heart. The main way this happens today is through daily Bible reading. If we don’t read the word we won’t know what the Lord wants from us.

So if you are saying “I need to hear from the Lord but I haven’t.” I ask you have you been reading his word. Have you mediated in his statutes. The Lord is always speaking. We just have to be willing to listen and be in position to receive what he says.

Have open ears and open hearts. His word is powerful.

Tomorrow, I plan on reading 1 Kings 8-9
