The Lord Speaks

Today’s Reading, Numbers 1-2

Focal Scripture: Numbers 2:1 “The Lord spoke to Moses and Aaron:”

If you’re not careful you can miss very important details in your Bible reading. I have at times got in a hurry during my quiet time. I just get it done, then spend too much time on other aspects of ministry. When I get in a hurry, I am unable to hear the Lord speak. This causes frustration because I want answers and direction in my daily life. When I don’t get these answers I get annoyed with everyone around me, especially my family.

In today’s reading we see instructions being given to Moses and Aaron. However, they didn’t read these instructions, and it wasn’t given by a prophet. The words they encountered were from the Lord himself. They had an audible encounter with the Living God. This fundamentally changed their lives and how they engaged with everyone around them.

The importance of this can’t be lost on us today. The Lord still speaks to believers in our setting. It will not be audibly in the same way Moses and Aaron experienced his voice. However, it will happen by reading the scriptures and listening to the Holy Spirit. It is vitally important to understand that when we are listening for the voice of God that it aligns with the scriptures. Far too often people trust a voice in their head and it is not biblical. This can cause damage to themselves and others they communicate with on a personal basis.

The goal of today’s devotion is to encourage you to communicate with the Lord. I also want to point out that God can use other methods to speak to his children. For the most part I believe that most of the extreme spiritual gifts and methods have ceased. However, I also believe that God can and will use whatever method or methods he deems necessary to get his message across.

If you are having a hard time hearing from the Lord, ask yourself if you are in a position to listen to his instructions. When our lives get busy and chaotic we have to much static that interferes with our listening.

I challenge you today to listen more than you speak. Be still more than you are active. Then surrender your will to his and watch what happens.

Tomorrow, I plan on reading Numbers 3-4
