The Lord Takes Care of the Details

Today’s Reading, Deuteronomy 8-10

Focal Scripture: Deuteronomy 8:4 “Your clothing did not wear out, and your feet did not swell these forty years.”

Details matter. It doesn’t matter if the details are for a large project or if they are for a small matter. Either way taking care of what others view as trivial, matters. At times in my life I can miss important details. However, in some aspects of my life I can become obsessed with the details. In the areas I am not as detailed oriented, I make more mistakes than I care to admit. It can even cause some communication difficulties. In the areas where the details are a priority, almost every little aspect is thought out and planned. Being detail oriented creates success.

In today’s reading the Lord tells Moses just how detailed his plans were for the Jewish people. He explains to them how he took care of them in the wilderness. He also explained how he provided for them with food and water. Then the Lord starts getting into the details of his provision. This small verse explains one of the greatest miracles in the Bible. For 40 years the clothes of the Israelites never wore out or became tattered. Then the Lord kept their feet from swelling, despite walking in the desert for forty years. This detail of the Lords provision should not go missed.

We know that God cares about the details. We see this in the creation account and in how he deals with people who openly reject him everyday. But for us to make this personal, we must understand that he is involved in the details of our life as well. Everything that happens in our lives is a detail from the Lord that is building our character. It is so detailed that is reveals our hearts and what lies inside of them. Make no mistake, our hearts being exposed is a detail we all need to have more of in our life.

The challenge that we have as believers is to find the good when it happens to us. The circumstances we face, whether good or bad, are the details that build our faith and our character. Without these events we would not be prepared to face future success and failures. We must learn to trust the Lord and what he does in our life. He is involved in every detail. Nothing catches him by surprise.

Today is the day that we trust the Lord with the details of our life. If he can keep clothes from wearing out for forty years, what can’t he do in our life. I promise you this, even though you can’t see it, the Lord is always at work. He knows about our life and the details that will impact us daily. It is to time to trust him in everything that we do.

Tomorrow, I plan on reading Deuteronomy 11-13
