The Lord Who Hears

Today’s Reading, Psalms 140-145

Focal Scripture: Psalms 145:18-19

“The Lord is near all who call out to him, all who call out to him with integrity. He fulfills the desires of those who fear him; he hears their cry for help and saves them.”

We all like to be heard. It can be frustrating when you speak and you believe the other person really isn’t listening to you. Or if that person is only listening because they have to, not because they genuinely care. That can be a very defeating feeling.

Thankfully, David tells us here that the Lord is near to those who call out to him with integrity. It is interesting that David added that word, integrity. Many people call out to the Lord but have hearts that have bad intent. God wants people who fear him in a biblical way. He wants people who have pure hearts.

Notice I didn’t say perfect hearts. Hearts that are genuine and honest. Hearts that give God the glory in all things. Why does this matter? Far too often people ask God to do things and they have selfish motives. When our hearts are not full of integrity God knows.

My challenge to you today is to be bold in your prayers. God knows what we need and he will respond. However, he also knows the why behind our ask. God wants us to ask for things in his name and his will. Those are cries he will answer. Those are prayers he will respond to and answer.

The Lord always hears us but wants us to ask rightly. Be a person with integrity. Be a person with a pure heart.

Tomorrow I plan on reading Psalms 146-150
