Today’s Reading, 2 Samuel 22-24
Focal Scripture: 2 Samuel 22:17 “He reached down from on high and took hold of me; he pulled me out of deep water.”
Saying thank you is easy and difficult at the same time. On one hand it is easy to say thanks for simple gestures. It is even easy to quickly say the word after many other activities. However, it is more difficult to stop and express from your heart thankfulness. People do this in a variety of ways. It could be through a letter, song, poem, or even gift giving.
In today’s reading we see the heartfelt song of praise and thankfulness to God. David writes this song to express the gratitude that God delivered him from his enemies. He acknowledges that God reached down from heaven, took hold of him and pulled him out of deep water. Did this literally happen? The answer is no. Was it David’s experience with how God dealt with him during his time of distress, absolutely.
What sticks out about this reading is the imagery David gives. When God delivers us from our enemy or situation are we just as thankful and appreciative? When it comes to giving thanks to the Lord most of us are lacking. We come to him with our problems, but rarely praise him for the solutions and deliverance he gives.
I challenge you today to just pray and thank God for what he has done in your life. Don’t ask for one thing from him while you are speaking with him. Just honor him, tell him of his greatness. Sing songs of faithfulness. Know that when you need it the most his hand will reach out and bring you up out of the difficult waters.
Let us have an attitude of praise that focuses on the holiness and sovereignty of our God. His arm reaches you no matter where you are located. Trust him and trust his grace.
