The Missing Piece

Today’s Reading 1 Chronicles 7-8

Focal Scripture: 1 Chronicles 7:40 “All these were Asher’s descendants. They were the heads of their ancestral families, chosen men, valiant warriors, and chiefs among the leaders. The number of men listed in their genealogies for military service was 26,000.”

The readings continually are taking us through genealogies and history of the people of Israel. What’s always interesting when you read about people are the missing pieces. The things that are not said. Sometimes you have to see with more than physical eyes.

In today’s verse you see many positive qualities of a family line. They are chosen, valiant warriors and great leaders. However, no mention of their character or following the statutes of God. They were successful in many things but were not known for the most important.

This raises a serious question. How will you be remembered? You can get many accolades. Be successful and accomplished. Be mighty in situations. Even lead well and miss the mark completely. Those things have their place but should never be what we seek.

Biblical success if being known as a person who loves God, loves others and has great character. A way to test this is to ask your family if you are the same person at home and in front of others.

If you want to be remembered well your character must be consistent. If it’s not you have missing pieces and your talent is out pacing your character. To often people are in leadership that their character can’t handle the pressure.

How you treat and speak to people reveals your motives. If you don’t lead and treat others with the same grace Christ has shown you, you are probably unfit.

Be remembered for your love of God above everything else. It should be your example to others.

Tomorrow I Plan on Reading 1 Chronicles 9-11
