The Offering to the Lord

Today’s Reading, Ezekiel 46-48

Focal Scripture: Ezekiel 46:4 “The burnt offering that the prince presents to the Lord on the Sabbath day is to be six unblemished lambs and an unblemished ram.”

Giving something to someone requires thought. If you are giving a gift most people have to at least pause and ask themselves if the gift will be liked by the other person. An examination of what makes that person happy must take place. For very important gifts much thought happens. Comparison of different styles and agony over every little detail.

Here in our reading today we see Ezekiel being lead to see the sacrificial and offering system put back in place. From what can be gathered from the readings is that the Israelites professed devotion but did not follow through in practice. This does not mean everyone behaves that way but it does mean the culture of giving and sacrifice was missed. However, now it has returned and the significance behind has also. Giving to the Lord what is rightfully his anyway.

For us as believers this means we need to give the Lord what is rightfully his. What is rightfully his you may ask? Our lives. To often people and preachers focus on money. What God wants is our complete devotion. He wants our hearts. Our lives should be an offering to him daily. What good is giving money if your heart is not right.

So I challenge you today to ask yourself if you are holding your life back from God. We are not called to sacrifice animals and give food as an offering anymore. We are called however, to give our lives completely to him in our actions and words.

You will never regret giving God all you have. It will conform you to his image quicker than almost anything.

Tomorrow I plan on reading Daniel 1-3
