The Reality of Sin

Today’s Reading, Isaiah 59-63

Focal Scripture: Isaiah 59:1-2 “Indeed, the Lord’s arm is not too weak to save, and his ear is not too deaf to hear. But your iniquities are separating you from your God, and your sins have hidden his face from you so that he does not listen.”

Sin is a problem. Not just for the unbeliever but also for the believer. Sin causes problems of broken fellowship and broken hearts. Sin will take you places you don’t want to go. To make matters worse the sins we often commit and struggle with are or egregious ones. They are the ones that seem insignificant and yet taking control of us over time.

Here in the reading today we see that God is willing to save and listen to us. However, because of sin in our lives it separates us from God. Our sin causes broken fellowship and until that sin is dealt with the relationship is not right. God takes sin personally. He wants it eradicated from the world and our lives. One day it will be but until then we must take care of that sin.

We can’t do it personally. In the Old Testament animals had to die to forgive sin. In the New Testament, Jesus died for our sins. Even as believers we still must confess our sins to the Lord. We must restore the broken fellowship. Sometimes people will live like sin is ok and never seek reconciliation from God.

The truth is that we must take sin serious. Sin wants to rule us and destroy us. Sin drowns out the voice of God in our lives. Sin wants to make us think that God wants nothing to do with us. Thankfully, God is patient and powerful. He is always willing to forgive and restore us tonight fellowship. He is faithful and is more than willing to forgive sin and restore right fellowship.

So I challenge you today. Get rid of sin in your life that is ruling over you. God is patient and kind. Drink for the deep river that is his forgiveness.

Tomorrow I plan on reading Isaiah 64-66
