Today’s Reading, Revelation 9-11
Focal Scripture: Revelation 11:10 “Those who live on the earth will gloat over them and celebrate and send gifts to one another because these two prophets had tormented those who live on the earth.”
Imagine gloating over the death of a person. Until a few months ago I didn’t believe that was a possibility in the US. However, after an assassination of an activist, I have witnessed people gloat, rejoice, even promote a death of another person. These actions of celebration have been on social media, out loud in person and even on tv. Statements have been made that he deserved to die and his viewpoints caused his death. Some are arguing he brought the death on himself and he got what he deserved. The point is that some people are happy with the death of a person that they believe caused problems.
In today’s reading we see this exact scenario happen in the end times. Two witnesses will be given power to perform miracles over the Earth. They will be able to stop the rain, cause plagues, and are invincible for 1260 days. They will prophecy biblical truth to everyone. However, when their time is up, the beast will rise from the sea and will kill them publicly. The people will be so happy at these two men’s death that gifts will be given in celebration. Their bodies will lie in the street and stay there for all to see, this way they gloat over their destruction.
I never understood how people could act and behave that way until recently. Unlike, current events, the death of the witnesses will not be the end of the story. After three and half days they will be resurrected. It will happen audibly and publicly. The entire world will see the power of God on display. Unfortunately, people will still reject the truth of the gospel.
So what does this mean for us today? It means that scripture will be fulfilled just the way it was written. What seemed hard to imagine is now plausible in our current environment. It also means that God will continually give people chances to repent of their sin, even when it doesn’t make sense.
I want you to know today that Jesus is coming again and he is coming soon. When? I do not have a clue and neither do you. However, I do know that scripture will be fulfilled. So I want to ask you these questions. Will you be with the Lord in heaven when it’s your time? Or will you be one of the people who rejoice at the death of the witnesses? Search your heart and find out if you have a saving faith or if you just have religion.
These answers will reveal your future and the sanctification of your heart. Seek him above all else and watch him change your life.
Tomorrow, I plan on reading Revelation 12-15
