The Right Type of Leader Asks the Right Questions

Today’s Reading, 1 Kings 3-5

Focal Scripture: 1 Kings 3:9 “So give your servant a receptive heart to judge your people and to discern between good and evil. For who is able to judge this great people of yours?””

If you could ask God for anything what would you ask? The answer to that question is very insightful. Maybe you want riches, power, or even fame. It could be to see a family member who has passed. Nothing would be off limits because nothing is out of bounds for the Lords power. If you stop and think about the possibilities it can almost make you sick and even a lil nervous because it reveals things that you want and desire.

In today’s reading Solomon goes to the Lord and has a request. He asks for a receptive heart to be able to hear from the Lord. He wanted that heart so he could determine what is good and what is evil. He wanted to be able to see through the noise and get to the heart of the matter. He understood that his leadership would be about making Godly decisions and he knew that his youth hurt him because he didn’t have the experience needed to lead from wisdom. So Solomon asks the only person who can truly help him for what he needed most to be a great leader, a receptive heart to the Lord.

Solomon knew that leadership required wisdom. So he asked the right questions to achieve that goal. For us to lead well in any avenue of life we need wisdom. Not just life wisdom but wisdom from God. Biblical wisdom that seeks the attitude and heart of God. To often leaders take advise from other leaders who might be successful but have no morals. Yes, you can mine nuggets from those people. However, they can’t give wisdom that leads to eternal life.

If our goal is to be more like Christ then we need to focus on God. We must learn his statutes. We must sit at his feet and prepare our hearts to know him in awesome and mighty ways. Our homes, business, churches, and families need biblical wisdom and leadership. Make no doubt it is obvious where these are lacking. Chaos reigns and there is a tolerance for sin that corrupts everything. Why? Because wisdom is lacking.

The Bible tells us if we lack wisdom we can ask God and he will give it to us. The problem many face is they like to live in ignorance because it’s easier. As believers we are not called to live an easy life but a Godly one.

What will you choose today?

Tomorrow, I plan on reading 1 Kings 6-7
