We Will Get What We Deserve

Today’s Reading, Amos 6-9 & Obadiah 1

Focal Scripture: Obadiah 1:15 “For the day of the Lord is near, against all the nations. As you have done, it will be done to you; what you deserve will return on your own head.”

We all know that one day we will give an account for our actions and our deeds. Sometimes it may happen on Earth. Ultimately our judgement will come from the Lord himself. One day we will all get what we deserve. We will get our reward for our choices. It will be judgment or it will be mercy.

In the reading today we see the visions that Obadiah had from the Lord. He is explaining that Edom along with all the nations who rejoiced and contributed in Israel’s destruction will be judged by the Lord. They will not only be judged but will have done to them what they did to Israel. Their deeds will be punished. What they deserve to happen to them will come to pass.

We all deserve death because of our sin. Sin is the problem of the world. For some they will get their just punishment for sin. It will be separation from God, put into the Lake of Fire to be punished for all eternity. This is the fate of every person in the universe.

But God stepped in and gave his son to take our place. He took the punishment that we deserve. By doing this we are now heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ. If you are a believer what is now due us is eternal life and forgiveness of sins. Why? Because God doesn’t want to see any perish but come to faith in him and have eternal life. As a believer we get hope!

I challenge you today to think about eternity in all you do. We all deserve judgment because of our sins. We all needed to be reminded of Gods love and forgiveness.

So will we get what we deserve because of our sin or will we get what we deserve because of Christ? The choice is yours.

Tomorrow I plan on reading Jonah 1-4
