When Adversity Comes How Do You Respond

Today’s Reading, Isaiah 18-22

Focal Scripture: Isaiah 19:3 “Egypt’s spirit will be disturbed within it, and I will frustrate its plans. Then they will inquire of worthless idols, ghosts, mediums, and spiritists.”

In our reading today we pick back up with God’s judgement and declarations against the nations even his own chosen people. In today’s focal verse he is speaking to the people of Egypt and how they will respond to that judgement. We see a glimpse of when struggles come who and what they turn to for help. It is not positive nor right.

We do see later in this chapter that some cities in Egypt will turn to the Lord. They will make altars and God will send them a leader to deliver them. It is amazing the different responses from different people. When trouble comes some turn to the Lord others turn to idols, ghosts, spirits, mediums and spiritists.

Where we turn when trouble happens reveals much about our thoughts and our faith. In our world many people put faith in astrology, stars, fortune tellers and other people. It doesn’t even have to be that off the path. Some people turn to talk show hosts, books, and friends.

The point of today is for you to think about your response when struggle comes. Do you submit to the Lord? Do you want to worship him? Or are you looking for a secular answer?

To whom we respond when we are in trouble reveals where our faith lies. So where does your faith rest? Does it rest with people? Or does it rest with the Lord?

I challenge you today to surrender your thoughts to the Lord. Watch what he can answer will do in your life when you seek him first. It will change your perspective and change your life.

Tomorrow I plan on reading 23-27
