Wickedness Will Sweep you Away If You Allow It

Today’s Reading Numbers 16-17

Focal Scripture: Numbers 16:26 “He warned the community, Get away now from the tents of these wicked men. Don’t touch anything that belongs to them, or you will be swept away because of all their sins.”

Here we come to a place where a certain group of people are trying to make Moses into something he is not. Korah gathered 250 men and tried to start a rebellion against Moses. The crime he committed?

  1. Exalting themselves above everyone else
  2. Accused of trying to kill them in the wilderness
  3. Appointing himself ruler over everyone else
  4. Didn’t bring them to a land flowing with milk and honey

None of these accusations were true, actually the opposite is the truth. Moses to this point has done everything that God has asked him to do. However, Korah was out to destroy Moses. We don’t know what motivated him to do this but we do know that it was not a God honoring act.

We see next that Moses prayed for help and advice and God delivered. It was revealed that if Korah would die of natural causes Moses would be wrong. If Korah were to die of a supernatural cause Moses was right. Not long after Korah was swallowed up by a whole in the ground and the other 250 were burnt up by fire. The evil intentions were sniffed out and dealt with swiftly.

The application of todays verse is simple. Don’t try to fight battles that God needs to handle. Moses got away from the evil people. He didn’t even touch their belongings. Sin was called out. On one side Moses was taken care of by God in a very difficult situation. On another Moses was betrayed by someone he did life with.

My encouragement for you today is this, when you face difficult people who are out to destroy you follow a few simple steps.

  1. Pray to God
  2. Listen to God
  3. Express your Concerns to God
  4. Don’t try to take vengenace

Being a follower of Christ is a difficult. Sometimes things go well. Other times people with agendas will do anything to destroy you. It is in these difficult times when we learn how deep our faith runs. It is also in these times we learn who we rely on when things turn sideways.

Lean on Christ when everything seems to being falling apart. It is in this situation when you will learn more about Christ then you ever have.
