Will you Go?

The Scripture

“I heard a voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?” Then I said, “Here I am! Send me.” (Isaiah 6:8)

Are we listening?

Many times in our life we hear words. However, do we really listen to what is being said. For example, if you have a spouse you know that listening is important. Many times someone in the relationship is talking but the other person is not listening. That means miscommunication is inevitable. Maybe the kids are pitching a fit or a work email just came through. Many situations have our attention. They take us away from the conversation. Therefore, the relationship suffers.

However, there are examples of when a conversation gets your attention. It is clear. It is evident and it requires you to act. Todays scripture is one of those examples. It shows us how to listen and respond appropriately. First, Isaiah heard God speak. Next, Isaiah listened intently. Finally, he gave an answer. He was not distracted but he was focused on God! He was in awe of the creator.

The Theological Solution

Therefore, the solution to listening is being focused on God above all. Isaiah was completely focused on God and nothing else. We have made life about us. We have become our own idols. When this happens we do not want to listen to anyone else, especially God. This means that we must tear down the idols and focus on Christ. Less time with our focus on everything else will lead to better listening. Which in turn means we will be ready to go on mission for God.

The Application

Are you ready to be sent? God wants people to go and tell others about him. He is looking for people to be obedient to him no matter the cost. Will you go wherever he sends you? No matter where that may lead. The world needs believers who are focused on Jesus and will volunteer to go when the opportunity arises.

Whom shall he send, and who will go for them? Will you?

Your answer will effect lives for generations to come.
