Wisdom and Knowledge Matters

Today’s Reading 1 Chronicles 28-29 & 2 Chronicles 1

Focal Scripture: 2 Chronicles 1:11-12 “God said to Solomon, “Since this was in your heart, and you have not requested riches, wealth, or glory, or for the life of those who hate you, and you have not even requested long life, but you have requested for yourself wisdom and knowledge that you may judge my people over whom I have made you king, wisdom and knowledge are given to you. I will also give you riches, wealth, and glory, unlike what was given to the kings who were before you, or will be given to those after you.”

Here we see that Solomon asks for a good thing. He asks God for wisdom and knowledge. To many leaders want to be listened to but don’t possess either wisdom or knowledge. Solomon has not be the leader before. He is young, inexperienced, and didn’t have a lot of life experience.

However, he knew that God would be with him. He also knew that God made him king and that the people he was going to rule belonged to God and not his own lineage. Solomon understood his role. That also speaks to his ability to know himself.

As believers it is difficult to admit we need wisdom or knowledge. Most people who lead think they have all the answers. By doing this they alienate others and usually behave like know it alls. This can cause numerous pitfalls.

A good leader knows their weaknesses. They pray that God will grow them up in this area. This can only happen from humility. That humility will bring God glory because you will be dependent on him for all your needs, especially when it comes to leadership.

Some people want power, others prestige, others like being obeyed. Humble and godly leaders always depend on God.

What type of leader are you? The answer can be found in how you treat people and how you seek God.

Be different than the leaders of the world. Be like minded with God.

Tomorrow I plan on reading 2 Chronicles 2-5
