Your Life is Valuable To The Lord

Today’s Reading 1 Samuel 25-27

Focal Scripture: 1 Samuel 26:24 “Just as I considered your life valuable today, so may the Lord consider my life valuable and rescue me from all trouble.”

How we treat others speaks volumes about us as individuals. David again has the opportunity to take Saul’s life. He can end the constant threats. He can stop hiding in caves. He can stop being lied to by Saul. It is more important to honor the person in charge than it is to end their life. Even though it would be justified.

David then reveals to Saul what could have happened. He tells Saul and his companion that he will not touch the Lord’s anointed. He saw Saul’s life as valuable and he spared it, to demonstrate the proper character. He also wanted the Lord to treat him the same way he treated Saul. A life that is worth saving even though he is not doing everything correct.

To apply this scripture we must understand that some people are not good people. It could be a boss, acquaintance, or even a family member. They may even be a person who God has anointed but they continually have bad intentions in their heart towards you. Saul is currently God’s choice. Even though he is actively trying to murder David.

David responds by giving honor and grace. We must respond with honor and grace when people come after us, even when they don’t deserve it at all. I know the temptation to go after those who are actively going after you. It can seem right to turn them over, tell on their behavior and actions, want them to suffer the way they have made you suffer.

However, that is not our calling. David showed Saul grace. So we must show our enemies grace. Especially, since God puts people in charge. If you’re struggling today because a leader is trying to destroy you remember this. It’s ok to hide in caves and treat your enemy well.

You will learn more in your time in the cave than you will ever learn by taking revenge. Treat others the way you want God to treat you.

Tomorrow I plan on reading 1 Samuel 28-31
