Beginning Your Journey at the Right Time

Today’s Reading, 2 Samuel 5 & 1 Chronicles 11-12

Focal Scripture: 2 Samuel 5:4 “David was thirty years old when he began his reign; he reigned forty years.”

I am a very impatient person at times. Especially when it comes to wanting to serve the Lord and do ministry. I have learned over the years that God doesn’t work on my timeline. He wants me to go through the journey that is laid out in front of me, not the one I have mapped out for my life. This often means that the path takes much longer to complete. I even have to watch others be used by the Lord in mighty ways, while I impatiently wait my turn.

In today’s reading, we find out David’s age when he became king of Israel. His reign began when he was thirty and concluded at the age of seventy. Don’t forget that David was told when he was a teenager that he would be the next king. That means for 13-15 years he served Saul, hid from Saul, and had to wait for God’s promises to be fulfilled. We know from reading the Psalms that David struggled with frustration. He often became overwhelmed, and his soul was in anguish. God had David on a journey, and the timeframe was perfect.

Today is one of those days that I need to be reminded of this truth. I love the secular job that I am doing at the moment. I work with great people and serve with one of the best leadership teams I have ever been around. The working environment is almost completely drama-free, and I am trusted to get my job done without much oversight. (It is also great to be around adults who don’t micromanage their staff)

However, with that being said, I am waiting for the Lord to open more ministry opportunities. I know at the moment I am meeting a need and ministering where I am located, but I miss serving the local church. I hope that in the near future, some doors will open where that will become more of a priority in my ministry. I miss preaching every week. I miss showing people how the gospel is not only about salvation but transformation. I know that on this journey I am on right now, God has me right where I need to be in my life.

So take heart and trust the Lord. No day is wasted, and your journey is perfect because the Lord is guiding your steps. You will be used correctly and at the perfect time. This is true no matter how long you have to wait for God to move in your life.

Tomorrow, I plan on reading Psalms 133
