Today’s Reading, Psalms 50, 53, 60, 75
Focal Scripture: Psalms 50:3 “Our God is coming; he will not be silent! Devouring fire precedes him, and a storm rages around him.”
How we view God plays a major role in our theology. If you view him as just a friend, you run the risk of not paying attention to his holiness. If you only pay attention to his wrath, you might be afraid to have real and deep conversations. This also applies to how we view the Lord in a literal sense. I think when people think of God and his throne, they think of a normal king. A person who sits and gives orders. Our God is not normal, and he is unlike anything else to have ever existed. Besides Jesus and the Holy Spirit, they are the only ones not to be created. Instead, they are the creators.
In today’s reading, we get a description of the Lord. It is majestic and powerful. We are told that our God is coming, and when he does, he will not be silent. A fire that devours will go before him, and a storm is raging around him for all to see. This description is awe-inspiring and pictures the majesty, holiness, and magnitude of our Lord.
Right now, I am trying to visualize this in real life. This thought is very overwhelming and stirs up great emotions in me that I have a hard time explaining. When our God comes, it is not going to be unseen. It is not going to be quiet. The whole world will know and will behold his glory. This thought should give you a theology of wonder and awe.
So how do you view God? Do you put him in a box you have made for him? Does that box include limiting his ability? As believers, we have to be careful not to become so educated that we miss his holiness. We also can’t be so consumed with his presence that we forget theology. God wants us to be passionate about who he is, which means with our minds and hearts.
Be in awe of him today! Be challenged and changed! Have deep theology that makes much of Christ.
Tomorrow, I plan on reading 2 Samuel 10, 1 Chronicles 19, & Psalms 20
