Today’s Reading, 2 Chronicles 19-23
Focal Scripture: 2 Chronicles 20:15 “and he said, “Listen carefully, all Judah and you inhabitants of Jerusalem, and King Jehoshaphat. This is what the Lord says: ‘Do not be afraid or discouraged because of this vast number, for the battle is not yours, but God’s.”
Life can be overwhelming at times. When you look around it may even appear as if the world itself is crashing down all around you and it may even seem like you have zero hope. However, what I have learned over the years is that when things seem the worst that is when victory is right around the corner. I need to make clear here that I am not saying everything will go your way or turn out the way you hope. I am saying that God will intervene and be with you through all of your circumstances. He is the one who will fight our battles when we are unable.
In todays reading we see that the battle is to big for the Israelites. Their enemies are numerous and are have the advantage. Thankfully, there was a prophet who declared the truth to the people. He wanted them to know that they did not need to be afraid or discouraged. Why? Because she battle did not belong to them, it belonged to the Lord.
The takeaway that we all need to get from the reading is that when our battles get overwhelming it is time for us to surrender. We have a bad habit as humans thinking we are in control and can handle every situation. We know this is not true but it makes us feel better when victories happen. It also allows us to blame others when things do not turn out the way we have hoped.
So what are we to do? We are to give up our control and trust the Lord completely. When the battles become too much, we rest in his presence and lay our future in his hands. Does this mean we sit idly by and do nothing? Absolutely, not! What it does mean is we put our loud feet to action. We pray the scriptures to God. We remind ourselves that he is our savior and deliver.
Are you trying to fight a battle you are not equipped to handle? If you are I encourage you to trust the Lord and his power. He knows our battles. He knows our enemies. He knows what we need to succeed.
Trust the one who fights on our behalf. Trust the one who is king over all.
