Today’s Reading, Exodus 33-35
Focal Scripture: Exodus 34:30 “When Aaron and all the Israelites saw Moses, the skin of his face shone! They were afraid to come near him.”
It is obvious if you are around someone who spends a lot of time with God. You can see it in their attitude, you can see it how they treat others, you can even see it on their face. A person who spends time with God is not like everyone else they encounter. On one hand it is very good to be different because it is obvious that you have spent much time with God. On the other hand it can intimidate others and even cause broken relationships.
In today reading Moses is spending slot of time with the Lord. The Bible tells us that it is so much time, his face was glowing with the glory of the Lord. Two things are true here in this verse. One, Moses was spending time with the Lord intentionally. Two, Moses had a physical reaction because he was in the Lords presence. This reaction was evident to everyone he encountered. Moses experienced what we all should strive for in our lives. When you spend quality time with the Lord it changes your appearance.
Now, I am not saying this in a strange way. What I mean is that the glory of the Lord will impact you in ways that are obvious to you and others. It also doesn’t mean you are perfect. Remember, when Moses came down from the mountain, got mad and then threw the tablets at the golden calf. His anger was justified but not a good look for a person who was just communicating with the Lord face to face.
So what about you? Can people tell you have been with the Lord? I know it can seem like a difficult question to answer but one that is necessary for us to answer. It is also one that should challenge us to examine our lives and see if we just talk the talk or if we walk the walk. If you’re not sure this applies to you it’s time to start with small steps. Start spending just 5 minutes a day in reading and prayer. Read just one verse, pray for God to help you be closer to him. Then thank him for who he is and sending his son.
This small step can help grow your faith. It will change your life. Then people will know you have been around Jesus.
Tomorrow, I plan on reading Exodus 36-38
