Today’s Reading, Proverbs 10-12
Focal Scripture: Proverbs 11:4 “Wealth is not profitable on a day of wrath, but righteousness rescues from death.”
Some people believe that wealth can solve every problem a person has in their life. I am going to be honest and let you know that wealth can fix a majority of the problems you face except for the one that matters the most, your eternity. One day all of us will stand before the Lord and give an account for our sins. Some people will be able to say “I put my faith in Jesus and he is the one to whom I belong.” Other people will say “I am a good person or I am not as bad as so and so.” Both groups of people must appease the wrath of God. God takes sin serious and either you will receive the wrath from God for your sins or Jesus will. There is no other answer.
In today’s reading we see Solomon tell his son that wealth will not help him from the wrath of God. The only hope he has is righteousness and that attribute only comes from the Lord. Solomon understood wealth better than any of us, he was the wealthiest man in the planet. However, he understood that right living and being redeemed was more important than riches.
So what about you? The day of wrath is coming for us all. One day we will all be judged before God and King Jesus. We will give an account for our sins, our actions, our thoughts, and even our motives. We will be laid bare before the one who sees and knows everything. The true owner of everything in the world will not be impressed by our limited amounts of wealth or status. The only thing that will satisfy the Lord is his son Jesus.
I urge you today to examine your heart and ask yourself if you truly having a saving faith. You can check this by examining your life.
- Do you love being around other believers?
- Do you have a desire to read, pray, and tell others about Christ? (Not talking perfection but a burden to do these things)
- Does sin break your heart?
- Do you experience conviction when you violate God’s standard?
These four questions are a quick way to determine if your heart has been changed. Remember, that one day wrath will be unleashed on sin and either you will pay that penalty or Christ will. That is and will always be up to you on how that situation unfolds.
I can’t speak for you but I know Christ has paid my debt and has taken my wrath. My hope is not in wealth only Jesus righteousness.
Tomorrow, I plan on reading Proverbs 13-15
