He Has Reigned For All Eternity

Today’s Reading, Psalms 81, 88, 92, 93

Focal Scripture: Psalms 93:2 “Your throne has been established from the beginning; you are from eternity.”

I have had the privilege of being in charge in a variety of contexts. However, I have never reigned. I definitely have never reigned from the beginning of time and for all eternity. To be in that position requires power, knowledge, grace, mercy, and understanding. No human can make the claim that is given to God in this verse. Why does it matter? Because I can be in charge of great acts and over people, but I do not have ultimate authority. It is and will always be with someone else.

In today’s reading, we see this declaration made about the Lord. His throne has been established from the beginning. That means even before anything existed, he reigned. He answers to nobody and is the only one responsible for creation and salvation. (On a side note, the trinity is to be understood) Then we see that the Lord is from eternity. This means he has no beginning and he has no end. He has always existed. This speaks to his character and his infinite wisdom.

So what does this mean for believers today? It means that we worship the one true king. Every other religion tries to copy the power and majesty of the Lord. If you read their teachings, it all starts the same way. They get another revelation from angels that tells them to listen to another person, but it always violates the character and standard of God. These religions deny his deity and his holy standard. They claim that Jesus is progressive and didn’t really mean what he said to his disciples and the religious leaders. When in reality, he fulfills the law and demonstrates his kingship.

The challenge that we have as believers is to put ourselves in our rightful place. Not where we think we should be in stature and recognition. Our God reigns, and he sits on his holy throne. This truth should give us comfort because we know he has seen everything. We know that nothing is out of his control. Let us be encouraged by how the Lord moves and works in our lives and the world.

He has reigned from eternity past and will reign for eternity future.

Tomorrow, I plan on reading 1 Chronicles 7-10
