Put Your Hope in God

Today’s Reading, Psalms 5, 38, 41, 42

Focal Scripture: Psalms 42:5 “Why, my soul, are you so dejected? Why are you in such turmoil? Put your hope in God, for I will still praise him, my Savior and my God.”

Hope is powerful. Hope can bring life. Hope can change the trajectory of a person’s life. I have been in a few situations where it seemed hopeless. It was overwhelming, and I didn’t know how I was going to make it out in time or be whole as a person. However, in the typical way God works in my life, God showed up when only he could get the glory. When there seemed to be no hope, I found it in the Lord alone.

In today’s reading, we see David ask himself some very serious questions. He asks his soul why it is dejected and in such turmoil. Then he gives himself an answer that is both powerful and honest. He tells himself to put his hope in God. That he must praise him because he is his Savior and his Lord. David understood that the only thing that could help his hopelessness was by having a stronger hope in the Lord.

So what about you? Are you in a place where you have lost hope? If you are, you have to admit it to yourself first before healing can come your way. You do this by searching your heart and your mind with fervor and passion. If your words are always negative and you don’t see the positive things in your life, you have lost hope. This negativity is not only a bad witness but also shows a lack of faith in God.

So how can you be a person who has hope in all circumstances? It happens when you look beyond yourself and seek God’s face. A biblical attitude of hope is not a belief that it might happen. It is the knowledge that the victory has already occurred; you are just waiting for it to be fulfilled. Biblical hope is a guarantee. Biblical hope will happen, no matter the circumstances.

So I challenge you today to have biblical hope. Live a life that knows that the Lord will fulfill his promises. So when all else fails, put your hope in God.

Tomorrow, I plan on reading 2 Samuel 22-23, Psalms 57
