He Judges With Fairness

Today’s Reading, Psalms 6, 8, 9, 10, 14, 16, 19, 21

Focal Scripture: Psalms 9:8 “And he judges the world with righteousness; he executes judgment on the nations with fairness.”

Being treated with fairness is a big deal. If you have ever been treated unfairly, you know exactly what I am talking about because it sticks with you for a long time. Right now, I can think of several different times I have witnessed this happen in a variety of settings. One time, I witnessed a few people who wanted to punish an entire group of people because of the actions of a few. The craziest part is that the larger group had no clue about the issues or the events that happened. People in charge put the blame everywhere, except where it belonged, on the handful of adults and students who did wrong. Fairness was not even discussed.

In today’s reading, we find out that the Lord is always fair in how he deals with people. David declares that God judges the world with righteousness. He even goes further, saying he exercises judgment in the world with fairness. We learn two important truths in this verse. First, God will judge the world. Secondly, when the nations are judged, it will be done fairly.

This is another example of God’s character being shown to us from the scriptures. It reveals how he deals with the world at large and with individuals. If you think that you will escape this life without being judged by the Lord, you are sadly mistaken. God is not only going to judge nations but also each person as well. The good news is that God judges fairly.

So what does that mean? It means when he judges, he knows all of the details. Nothing is hidden from his view or his gaze by individuals or nations. This is good news because when he judges, he doesn’t do so without knowing every single detail. He knows the intent of each person’s heart. Then, when he declares his judgment, it is completely fair. Why? Because he is good and just.

What is the application for us today? It is important to understand that our lives are being examined. He will judge us perfectly. Our reward will be exactly what we have chosen in our hearts. We can’t blame anyone else for what happens to us in eternity except for us as individuals. Our judgment is fair, and it is perfect.

Remember how you live your life and how you think in your heart will be the foundation of the Lord’s judgment. So how will the Lord judge you? It is a great question to ponder, both for the believer and the unbeliever.

Tomorrow, I plan on reading 1 Chronicles 1-2
