The Lord’s Lamp

Today’s Reading, Proverbs 19-21

Focal Scripture: Proverbs 20:27 “The Lord’s lamp sheds light on a person’s life, searching the innermost parts. ,”

While on vacation I had the opportunity to go through a pretty deep cave and look at some very interesting geological discoveries. While on this journey it got very dark on several of the trails that we were on during the hour long hike. On two different occasions the lights were completely turned off and it was pitch black. It was the darkest environment that I have ever experienced. However, that darkness dissipated when the smallest light was introduced. It exposed the entire group and our surroundings to one another. The light did its job and the darkness could not overcome it at all.

In today’s reading we are told that the Lords lamp sheds light on a persons life. This light searches the innermost parts of a persons life and leaves everything exposed. This wisdom from Solomon is important because it reveals that the Lord is always investigating and examining our lives. Even in the dark parts, he will shed his light and expose the innermost parts of us as individuals. Nothing can be or will be hidden from his gaze.

To be very transparent this is a very scary passage of scripture. Why? Because it reveals that I have no secret thoughts or motives. When the Lord searches my heart and mind, I am completely exposed. He knows my struggles, secret sins, and the things that I hope nobody ever knows about me in my life. Then on the other hand it is a relief because I know that the Lord loves me even though I am broken.

My challenge for you today is to rest in the presence of the Lord. When you understand that he knows everything about you and still sent his son to redeem you should give you confidence. Being completely exposed gives a sense of peace and truth that is liberating. This is what the Lord does when he searches us and reveals our hearts.

So what is the Lord revealing in your life today? What needs to change? Are you surrendered to him today? If not, today is the day to live completely sold out to him for the rest of your days.

Tomorrow, I plan on reading Proverbs 22-24
