Today’s Reading Joshua 1-4
Focal Scripture: Joshua 1:8 “This book of in instruction must not depart from your mouth; you are to mediate on it day and night so that you may carefully observe everything written in it. For then you will prosper and succeed in whatever you do.”
Moses is dead and Joshua is in charge. Being the person that has to make decisions can be difficult when you do not know where to turn for answers. Sometimes people believe that leadership is having certain skills. Skills are needed but that will not help you become a good biblical leader.
God is telling Joshua that to be a good leader and accomplish what I have set before you, you must know the law. You must mediated on the word. It is not just a passing moment. It should be mediated on all the time. It will help Joshua be strong and courageous because he is trusting in God’s word not his own.
This same is true for believers today. We can’t take the promise to Joshua and say that we will get the same results. However, we can apply the principle to our lives. We should be a people who study the book. Mediate on the Bible. It should drive our conversations and be the main source of our dialogue. It should be transforming.
Unfortunately, some people do not view the scriptures as important as they should. Sometimes excuses are made on why someone can’t or is not able to mediate on scripture. Working with students I have been told from other adults that my expectations for Bible reading was to much. They could not do what I was asking of them. The standard was to great to meet. That standard is not mine. It is Gods. This attitude shows a lack of loving God’s word. I have never heard that being used for anything else in a students life. Sports, school projects, relationships, jobs and a list of other endeavors gets promoted and applauded. Scripture gets pushed away and becomes to difficult.
That does not have to be the case. If you love the word others will love the word. When it becomes a priority in your home, church, and ministry others will eventually catch the vision. The standard God set for Joshua is the minimum we should expect to meet everyday.
Love the word.
Tomorrow I plan on reading Joshua 5-8
