Being First

Today’s Reading 1 Chronicles 1-2

Focal Scripture: 1 Chronicles 1:10 “Cush fathered Nimrod, who was the first to become a great warrior on earth.”

As a new book is started it may appear as it will be redundant. However, this book takes a different view of David and the northern kingdom. In these first several chapters it focuses on the genealogies of God’s people. Especially, the line of David.

In the middle of this genealogy we get one verse that talks about Cush’s son Nimrod. It says that he was the first to become a great warrior. That may seem insignificant but being the first to be good at something is never easy. It requires a lot of self sacrifice and willingness to fail.

The application for believers is that most people are not willing to take risks. They are afraid to step out and accomplish what nobody else has done. Sometimes that fear comes from being different. Most people don’t like others who are different and think outside the box. Being first means you’re a non conformist.

That usually stresses people out. Most people from leaders to parents want to control others. However, to risk being first means you have to be willing to try and do anything. Nimrod only became a great warrior by going to war and being successful. He had to be first.

Be encouraged today if you are willing to step out and take the risks. You will fall and you will make mistakes. Others will try to discourage you and even try to control you. Keep the personality and the drive that has been given to you to be first. No matter what happens that desire to be different will pay off, even if it is difficult.

Tomorrow I plan on reading 1 Chronicles 3-5
