Today’s Reading, Psalms 58-65
Focal Scripture: Psalms 63:1-2 “God, you are my God; I eagerly seek you. I thirst for you; my body faints for you in a land that is dry, desolate, and without water. So I gaze on you in the sanctuary to see your strength and your glory.”
Many of the Psalms are laments and David expressing his frustration. Which is a definite part of living life. However, we also see David praise the Lord and explain how desperate he is to be in fellowship with God.
In this Psalm, David explains how he eagerly seeks God. He wants God even more than water which he has no access to at the moment. Think about not having anything to drink and the desire you have is for God not for water. That shows an eagerness to know the Lord.
David even goes on to say how he gazes on the Lord in his sanctuary. He wants to see the Lord’s strength and glory. This demonstrates that David put God first even above his physical needs. He was focused on serving in awesome and committed ways.
The challenge for believers today is do you desire and seek the Lord above all things. Yes, life happens and distractions take place. However, do you desire God above the rest of your wants and desires. Do you show that to your family and children?
Or do you desire your own needs to be meet first. When David wrote this he was in the wilderness. He was trying to figure life out and needed to survive. David chose the Lord above everything else. He was focused on the goal at hand which is to know God deeply.
What is your goal? What you seek and desire will show your goal to others? Be a passionate follower and pursue the Lord first.
Tomorrow I plan on reading Psalms 66-69
