Imitators of God

Today’s Reading, Ephesians 4-6

Focal Scripture: Ephesians 5:1-2 “Therefore, be imitators of God, as dearly loved children, and walk in love, as Christ also loved us and gave himself for us, a sacrificial and fragrant offering to God.”

Sometimes we need to get rid of things in our life. It can be physical things like junk or unnecessary items around the house. Other times it can be emotional, physical, or spiritual items we need to give away. In chapter 4 of Ephesians Paul is telling the church of Ephesus to get rid of attitudes and speech that contradict the teachings of Jesus. He was expecting people to live differently. To live biblically.

The only way that can happen is to be imitators of God. Our reading today is big and bold. Paul wants this church to live like Jesus. He wants them to walk in love. Love that Christ demonstrated by his death. This choice by Christ was a fragrant offering. Paul wants this church to live and serve this way. The o be a fragrant offering in how they speak, live, and treat others. To be imitators of God.

So who are you imitating today? If you were to look at your life who is the person you most resemble? Do people see Jesus or another person? My challenge for you today is to get rid of everything that hinders you from being like Jesus. We must surrender all we have on the altar. We need to submit our speech, our wants, our desires, our actions and even our reactions to brothers.

If we all would strive to imitate Christ the world around us will change. We will speak differently, pray differently, and even worship differently. I want to imitate Jesus. I hope you do as well. He longs for us to be more like him. That is a fancy word called sanctification. Let us be more like Jesus today than we were yesterday.

Let’s be Imitators of God to his glory and his good.

Tomorrow I plan on reading Philippians 1-4
