Words Matter

The Scripture

“In your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you.” (1 Pet 3:15)

Be prepared to speak

People have always needed hope but in todays culture it seems as if hope has vanished. If you are a believer and know the Bible you know the ultimate theme. We are sinners in need of a Savior. However, many people do not believe they are a sinner and have questions about Jesus. I personally believe the reason people are losing hope today is because they do not know where to look. Therefore, believers need to speak up about who Christ is and how he changed their lives.

The Theological Solution

So how do we as believers give other people hope? First, we should speak about the attributes of God. He is loving, kind, fair, honest, and merciful. However, he is also someone who takes sin and evil extremely serious. Christians must be a people who passionately tell others about the complete character of God. Next, believers should speak about God sending Jesus to redeem them of their sins. Jesus came to solve the problem of sin. He came to pay our penalty. Unfortunately, many people have questions that do not get answered because believers are not ready to speak.

The Application

To solve this problem believers must remember the depths of where they have come from. The reason so many Christians are not ready to give an answer for the hope they have is that they forgot what it is like to not have that hope. So I challenge myself and I challenge you to look back at your life and remember what it was like to have questions. To have doubts about the Bible and faith.

Are you speaking up? Have you given people hope today? The only hope people should have is in Jesus. Defend your faith and give hope to anyone who needs it! Do people think about Christ’s hope when they think about your conversation?
