Killed By Those You Lead

Today’s Reading 2 Chronicles 32-34

Focal Scripture: 2 Chronicles 33:23-24 “But he did not humble himself before the Lord like his father Manasseh humbled himself; instead, Amon increased his guilt. So his servants conspired against him and put him to death in his own house.”

How bad of a person and leader do you have to be for your people to want to murder you? This is where we find ourselves in today’s reading. Amon must have been a terrible person to serve with and have as a leader.

This text tells us he didn’t humble himself, he increased his guilt and constantly worshipped everything and anything else other than God. With this attitude I am sure that his followers wanted nothing to do with him. Being a bad leader can cause much distress on those in your charge.

The lesson today is what type of leader are you? Obviously when you lead not everyone will agree with sections that you make. However, they shouldn’t question your character or your heart. I have personally experienced leaders who act one way publicly and another way privately. Be assured their judgement will come.

If you serve under a bad leader I encourage you to pray for them. If it is bad enough I also encourage you to leave. Following a bad leader can impact you in many ways. You also need to examine yourself and if you have a problem with someone address them. That conversation may not go well but it is the right thing to do. The worst thing you can do is go behind someone’s back and complain then treat the person you’re complaining about another way. That’s being faced and not a good example.

The point for todays devotion is to understand the leader your following. Don’t stay until you feel like violence is your only way out. Be perceptive and leave to save your well being.

Also to ask yourself are you a bad leader where people don’t want to be around you. That could reveal much.

Tomorrow I plan on reading 2 Chronicles 35-36
