Today’s Reading, Esther 1-5
Focal Scripture: Esther 3:5 “When Haman saw that Mordecai was not bowing down or paying him homage, he was filled with rage.”
People will always reveal who they really are in due time. In the book of Esther we see many different people who all reveal their character. Mordecai was a man who wanted to do the right thing no matter what. After all he did adopt Esther. Esther was full of grace and wisdom. She listened to wise council. Haman was a man who wanted power and to be worshipped.
These three characters knew what they wanted and two of them had a healthy fear of the Lord. Haman, however wanted to be worshipped. He wanted people to bow down to him. He needed the attention and even craved to have it daily. He was a leader but one with no character.
This book teaches us all about godly character and dangerous leaders. You must watch out for dangerous leaders who long to be worshipped. This can take many different forms. I have witnessed leaders who demand they be in charge. They want everything ran by them. They even tell people they are in charge and that is why they are in the seat they sit.
I have learned many years ago that if you must tell people you are in charge you’re not really in charge. As believers we must be aware that Hamans are everywhere. They are in the secular world and even pastors of churches.
So what can be done about this? It takes godly people to stand up to ungodly leaders and actions. Mordecai and Esther had to put fear off and address a bad leader for the benefit of an entire people group.
I challenge you today to find out what type of leader you are and what type of leader you may be following. Again the Bible demonstrates what a bad leader looks like (Haman) and what godly leadership looks like (Mordecai and Esther).
Check your heart and examine your intentions. If you can stop bad leaders be bold enough to do it before it’s too late.
