Today’s Reading, Psalms 40-45
Focal Scripture: Psalms 42:7-8 “Deep calls to deep in the roar of your waterfalls; all your breakers and your billows have swept over me. The Lord will send his faithful love by day; his song will be with me in the night — a prayer to the God of my life.”
When you’re overwhelmed you understand the meaning of deep calling to deep. When life hits hard it can beat you down until you have nothing left. If you have ever experienced a big storm on the water you know the feeling. The waves crash in on you, the current pulls you ways you don’t want to go.
You feel helpless and with no control. However, we see here that even when that happens God will provide and send his love by day and his song by night. Even when the storms come God will be with us in those difficult times.
Here we see that the Psalmist is explaining what is normally lush and relaxing headwaters of the Jordan. However, this writer is overwhelmed by what he is experiencing.
The same thing can happen to us when we focus on our problems and not our God. We can be called by the deep and not by God’s love. I encourage you today to not focus on the negative but on God’s promises.
Be open and honest and watch God move in your life. He has you in the palm of his hands.
Tomorrow I plan on reading Psalms 46-50
