Today’s Reading, Job 14-16
Focal Scripture: Job 16:5 “Instead, I would encourage you with my mouth, and the consolation from my lips would bring relief.”
Job had friends that cared enough about him to show up. He also had friends that didn’t know what to say. This lead to his friends blaming Job for his struggles. Job didn’t need an explanation from his friends about his situation. He needed encouragement.
Job tells his friend what he needed. He clearly says that he needs words of encouragement. Those words would bring consolation and relief. Job didn’t need a lesson. He needed to be encouraged.
This is a big lesson for believers. To often they try to explain the problems in others lives. Instead they should encourage the one who is suffering. Make it personal and specific to that individual. Words of encouragement matter and will be remembered.
To often people will use their opinions or difficult times to cut people down. They will take advantage of struggles and seek out opportunities to give their opinions. I encourage you to build the people you know up in the Lord. Be an encourager not a complainer.
Treat others how you want to be treated when you are suffering. It will make a difference. Always find the good and don’t focus on the negative.
