Today’s Reading, Psalms 108-114
Focal Scripture: Psalms 111:10 “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom; all who follow his instructions have good insight. His praise endures forever.”
Where do we get good wisdom from? Many people believe that wisdom comes from schooling, life experiences, work and even relationships. Those avenues may have an impact on wisdom it misses the heart of wisdom.
Here we see that the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. Fearing turned is not a bad way to view his immense attributes. Having a biblical fear of God is a good way to worship. This demonstrates that we understand who we are worshipping. It demonstrates a healthy respect.
We then see that if we follow his instruction we will have a better insight. We will be prepared to worship in a more real way. What that means is that we will be worshipping all of God not just the parts that we feel are acceptable. Biblical fear of God should be embraced not condemned.
What does that mean for believers? It means we need to view God biblically. We need to see him and understand that his biblical fear can and will lead us down the right path. Sometimes we become so familiar with God we forget who he is and that he is all powerful and holds everything in his hands.
This is not a fear that we would have humanly. It is a fear of respect and awe. A fear that produces reverence and wonder. A fear that leads to love and submission. A fear that leads to worship. When we view God this way we will begin to gain wisdom.
