Today’s Reading, Luke 8-9
Focal Scripture: Luke 9:20 “But you,” he asked them, “who do you say that I am?” Peter answered, “God’s Messiah.”
Knowing something that others don’t know is an interesting experience. Sometimes it happens because you are in leadership and privy to conversations others aren’t. Other times you realize a truth before the entire group catches on. Either way having information that most people don’t know is exciting and fearful. After all what will you do with the information? Either keep it to your self or tell others what you know.
In the focal verse today Jesus asks the disciples who they think he is. This takes place after he asks the disciples the crowds opinion of who he was. They give a variety of answers but then Jesus makes it personal. He wants to know who they think he is.
Peter announces that “you are the Christ.” Peter got it. He saw the truth and he announced it in front of his friends. Then Jesus tells them to not tell anyone. The interesting part of this story is that even though Peter makes this declaration he and the other disciples didn’t live like Jesus was the Messiah. They were present for so much and still doubted at times. Even denying that they knew him.
So the challenge for us today is to make sure we know who Christ is but also make sure we tell others. The world needs to know that Jesus is the Messiah. They need to know that he is the lamb of God that takes away the sins of the world.
Today make it your goal to proclaim Jesus as the Messiah. The one who has come to save the world. Our declaration will make it clear to others they have a choice to make and they must decide who Jesus is to them.
This truth is what changes lives because we know he is the son of God who takes away sin and brings us from death to life.
