Today’s Reading, Psalms 108-114
Focal Scripture: Psalms 110:1 “This is the declaration of the Lord to my Lord: “Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies your footstool.”
One day Jesus will come back and it will not be like the first visit. When he first came, Jesus was showing a new way. He was teaching what the Kingdom of God was supposed to look like for followers. He was exposing religious hypocrisy. He was bringing to light how the sacrificial system was being misused and misapplied. He was heartbroken for the people and worship towards his Father. He was the humble Messiah he took away the sins of the world.
In today’s reading we clearly see that one day the enemies of the Lord will become his footstool. This means that he will rule with complete authority. The ones who are causing problems will bow down to worship the one true King. This also tells us that Jesus is sitting and waiting for this time. As he holds the universe together he is earnestly anticipating the moment he gets to come get his bride. This will set into motion his literal and physical reign over the cosmos. As believers we already know this to be truth but one day the entire world will get to see him as he truly is, in all of his glory and splendor.
So what does this mean for us as believers? It means we need to understand rightly who we worship. Jesus is perfect in all his ways. He is humble and he is patient. However, he is also in charge. He holds everything together because he can and he is the only one worthy of this honor. One day Jesus Christ will leave his seat in heaven and come to claim the throne which is already here on this Earth. All of the debate and speculation will end at his coming.
This should encourage us as believers. The one we worship will fulfill his promises. He will rule rightly and justly. We will get to see the object of our faith. His enemies will bow and worship him and be put into their rightful place. Debates will cease as the King of Glory is revealed to the world.
I can’t speak for anyone else but I am excited for that day. I long for it with all of my heart. To finally see the one I believe in, in person. The awe and wonder that I will experience. All of the trials and tribulations to mold me into the version he desires. Yes, his enemies will become his footstool but I will become a person who bows down to worship. We all will knell and it will just look different depending on where your faith is located.
