Today’s Reading, Exodus 7-9
Focal Scripture: Exodus 9:16 “However, I have let you live for this purpose: to show you my power and to make my name known on the whole earth.”
Statements of facts are very powerful. The reason they are so powerful is because you are being confronted with a truth that can’t be denied. You might want try and argue the fact because it doesn’t fit your narrative. You can even try to dismiss or down play a fact when it is not convenient. However, a fact is not true because we like it, a fact is true because it has been proven so on countless occasions. You want an example, 2 + 2 = 4. This is proven, has been repeated and no sane person can deny or refute this accepted position.
This is not the only universal truth we have in our world. The other is that God exists and he will make his name known to the entire universe. In today’s reading, when God is addressing Pharaoh, he reminds him of the multiple opportunities he had to release the children of Israel. He could have avoided the plagues and been seen as a hero. Instead, God lets him know he is still alive for two purposes. First, to show Pharaoh Gods power. Second, to make his name known to the whole Earth. This will be accomplished through the 10 plagues on Egypt.
Make no mistake, the whole Earth will know the name of the Lord in the last days. We are told in Philippians that every knee will bow and every tongue confess that Christ is the Lord. We also see in Revelation, during the final encounter with the leaders of men, Christ will come as the conquering king with his name displayed on his thigh. The whole world will see it and there will be no more doubt.
So what does this mean for us today? It means we have marching orders. God put the nation of Egypt on notice because of their rebellion and because they would be the people who would encounter Gods power. The account of Gods works would ripple throughout the entire world. Our marching orders are to tell our circle of influence about God. We are told to tell of his marvelous works. We must tell people of Gods relentless love. However, we must tell them of his righteous judgement. His intolerance for sin in the world. Then finally, that salvation can only be found in the name of Jesus.
People can’t be saved if we don’t tell them about the name of Jesus. Pharaoh encountered plagues to get the name of the Lord spread throughout the world. Now, the Lord’s name gets spread by you and me. So how are you doing spreading his name? Are you declaring the name of the Lord and making it known to the world? If you’re not, it is time to start.
Because one day, he will reveal it to everyone himself and then it will be too late for the world to respond to his grace and mercy. Today is the day of salvation. Today is the day to spread his name to everyone you see.
