Don’t Waste Your Youth

Today’s Reading, Ecclesiastes 9-12

Focal Scripture: Ecclesiastes 12:1 “So remember your Creator in the days of your youth: Before the days of adversity come, and the years approach when you will say, “I have no delight in them”;

Death is coming for us all. Unless Jesus returns soon everyone who reads this will experience this reality. As we get older the days and years go quicker. Our youth and vitality are now in the review mirror not the front windshield. This means we need to make much of our time while we are young.

This is what the writer is speaking about today. While we are young and able we need to remember our creator and serve him with vigor. Because there will come a point where we will not have the energy or and drive to do what we once did. Age will eventually catch up with us and bring us back to reality.

The challenge for believers here is two fold. First, while we are young in years we need to serve the Lord wholeheartedly. We need to give all we have to the kingdom and show our families what it means to be a servant of God. Secondly, if you are older you still have a purpose. If you’re able to serve you need to because the younger generation needs to see you in this capacity. As John Piper said “ Don’t waste your life picking up seashells.” You were made for so much more.

I encourage you to use your time wisely. Far too often we do things that have no eternal value. Let us leverage our youth for the kingdom of God.

Tomorrow I plan on reading Song of Songs 1-8
