Make Good Friends

Today’s Reading, Proverbs 22-23

Focal Scripture: Proverbs 22:24-25 “Don’t make friends with an angry person, and don’t be a companion of a hot-tempered one, or you will learn his ways and entangle yourself in a snare.”

We all have different types of friends. We have friends that are quirky. They can be serious, or even jokesters. Maybe they even have struggles with social norms or are extremely nerdy. They are unique and they are loved because they are different.

There is one type of person Solomon says to avoid being friends with, and that is an angry person and not to be a companion of a hot tempered one. The reason he gives is because you will learn their ways and entangle yourself. This is coming from the wisest man to ever live.

However, some people don’t take this wisdom. They believe they know better. Or worse yet, excuses are made for this type of behavior from those who know them. This leads to destruction.

I encourage you to not be involved with people who are angry or are hot tempered. It is not wise to have relationships with people like this and it is definitely not wise to work with or for people like this. So what can you do if you are in a relationship with individuals like this?

If biblical, end the relationship, because it will bring you more pain if you stay connected. If you work with someone like this end the job and go find peace. The reason you can’t stay is because this attitude is contagious and will eventually rub off on you.

My challenge to believers is to make sure you’re not this type of person. If you are it is time to repent. If you see this happening don’t make excuses for this behavior. Especially if you see it from anyone in leadership. Remember as the pulpit goes so goes the church. If this behavior is allowed to thrive it will infect the entire body.

Making good friends is worth it even when it means you have to be picky.

Tomorrow I plan on reading Proverbs 24-26
