Wisdom and Skill to Perform the Tasks Appointed by God

Today’s Reading Exodus 30-32

Focal Scripture: Exodus 31:6 “I have also selected Oholiab son of Ahisamach, of the tribe of Dan, to be with him. I have put wisdom in the heart of every skilled artisan in order to make all that I have commanded you:”

The tent of meeting and all of the details had to be a daunting task. I imagine when Moses was hearing just how specific God was being he had to think “How am I going to accomplish all that God wants of me?” Thankfully, God had already taken care of that for Moses. After God finished telling Moses the what of his plan he then tells him the how of the plan.

This is a dynamic portion of scripture. Here God explains that he has specifically called and gifted certain individuals with the skills, wisdom, and heart to accomplish the task at hand. What a relief that must have been to Moses. He already had his hands full with so much in leadership. He learned here that just because you are the leader does not mean you have to be in charge of everything.

This is where the application comes in for today’s reading. To often those who are in charge believe that they have to know how to do everything or be the one that actually does everything. In theory that sounds like a good plan. Most leaders will say something like “I am in charge, it must all go through me.” However, that is an impossible task for any leader. Thankfully, Moses already learned this through his father in law Jethro. If you remember, Jethro came to Moses and said told him he was wearing himself out and to appoint people to handle the small cases. Moses would only know about the big problems that really needed his attention. That means many decisions were made without Moses having any idea of what took place. It allowed Moses to lead and to lead well.

If you are in a position of leadership hear the words that God told Moses. He placed wisdom and skill in the hearts of the people to accomplish the building of the tent. God has also gifted the church with members who have wisdom, skill, and talent. When church leaders lean on these skills the church will be so much better. The church can be better than the tent of meeting.

For Godly leadership to shine it requires trust in God’s process and not ours. Leaders must trust that others are more gifted in certain areas then them. God made us all unique and different for a reason.

Tomorrow I plan on reading Exodus 33-35
