Today’s Reading, Isaiah 49-53
Focal Scripture: Isaiah 53:6 “We all went astray like sheep; we all have turned to our own way; and the Lord has punished him for the iniquity of us all.”
We are like sheep. We can be hard headed, obstinate, and follow our own path. When this happens we are often wandering on side roads by ourselves. In the midst of our own travels we often cause pain to ourselves and those around us.
In the verse today we see that the suffering servant was punished for our sin. Our sins are great. They come from rebellion. They come from traveling our own way. They come from violating God’s standard. Our sins can be summed up by being a people who wander off the path. When that happens we need someone to come save us because we can’t do it ourselves.
The application for today is to understand that the redemptive plan has always been when in place. Sin has consequences. Those consequences lead to death. Thankfully we have one who has chosen to take our sin and was punished by the Lord in our place.
The fact that the servant was willing to be punished should drive us to worship. He bore our sins and took the penalty. As believers we should be thankful daily. If you’re an unbeliever you have hope. If you believe that Jesus can take your sins and be punished on your behalf you understand what salvation truly is in your life.
Just like sheep who have gone astray our King has provided an opportunity for salvation if we will follow him. He wants to bear our iniquities. He is offering hope and deliverance from our wandering. Respond to his gift today.
