The Lamb of God

Today’s Reading, John 1-2

Focal Scripture: John 1:29 “The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, “Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!”
‭‭

Hearing major claims will grab your attention. Living in the south you will hear major claims about football teams. They will argue about who will win games. Who is the better team and even who needs to get rid of their football teams. Most often the people talking don’t have much credibility. They are fans but do not speak with authority.

In today’s reading John the prophet is speaking about Jesus. He announced to everyone that they need to behold Jesus because he is the lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world. This phrase would have sent shockwaves through Jerusalem. The statement that Jesus would become a sacrifice and be able to forgive sins is massive. Especially because is not only the sins of Jews but the sins of the world.

What are the implications of this truth? John wanted his hearers to know that Jesus was different. He was on the scene to do something that nobody else was qualified to do. He was a walking sacrifice. He is also God in the flesh. This means that sins would be forgiven for everyone and anyone who believes in Jesus.

So have you believed in Jesus? Do you believe that he is the lamb of God that takes away the sins of the world? Many people make claims about Jesus but their actions and attitudes don’t line up with the truth of having sins forgiven.

They have a head knowledge but zero heart change. I hope today that you believe that Jesus is the lamb of God. I hope it changes is you think and what you believe. This truth should drive you to live differently. It changed John. It changed the disciples. It has even changed many others.

But the real question is has it changed you?

Tomorrow I plan on reading John 3-4
