A Great Leaders Testimony

Today’s Reading, 2 Samuel 1-4

Focal Scripture: 2 Samuel 3:38 “Then the king said to his soldiers, “You must know that a great leader has fallen in Israel today.”

What type of leader are you? Would people say that you are a great leader? Or just one that gets by to accomplish certain tasks. I know personally, I still have much to learn about leadership. There are days when I can clearly see what I need to accomplish. Then there are days when I struggle with what to do when given a situation that needs my input and leadership. No matter what situation I am in, I just want to do what is best for the people I am leading.

In today’s reading, we see a declaration David makes about Abner. He calls Abner a great leader. He realizes that this man not only helped others but also led in a way that his character was noticed even by the King. People also noticed he was a great leader. His leadership must have been impactful because it was talked about by others. His leadership made a tremendous impact on David and the nation as a whole.

I am not sure about you, but when I lead, I want to make an impact on others and the kingdom. How is that done? By doing my best to treat everyone with respect and honor. Especially those who disagree with my decisions or people who are not always friendly. True leadership is not about exerting power or dominance. True leadership is about moving hearts to follow Christ. Even when leading unbelievers.

So, how would your leadership style be characterized? Are you leading others to follow Christ? Or are you leading others to follow your own will? The difference is easy to spot if you are paying attention. One leadership style promotes people so they can be seen. Another leadership style is all about control and micromanagement. The leader who belittles others has no place serving others.

The challenge I have for everyone today is to be remembered for good leadership, especially when it is difficult to lead. Have a character that always honors the Lord. Leadership will influence people to follow Christ or to reject him.

Be a person of good moral character in every setting, so much so that powerful people and the everyday person want to know and follow Jesus.

Tomorrow, I plan on reading Psalms 6,8,9,10,14,16,19,21
