Wisdom and Knowledge

Today’s Reading, Proverbs 13-15

Focal Scripture: Proverbs 14:6 “A mocker seeks wisdom and doesn’t find it, but knowledge comes easily to the perceptive.”

I was once in a meeting and was asked this question “Do you think I am stupid? Because when I talk you sit and listen and don’t say anything.” The answer to that question was complicated. I don’t believe the person was stupid but I do believe that they had a wicked and perverse heart. The reason I didn’t respond to this person is because they would try to twist and manipulate conversations. They would gossip about others behind their backs. Then their motives and ideas were not scripturally based but initiated by man made schemes. The person who asked these questions was not wise or knowledgeable. Unfortunately, this person believed they were the smartest person in the room but that was proven untrue by the wake of chaos that constantly surrounded them.

In today’s reading Solomon tells his son that a mocker seeks wisdom but doesn’t find it in their life. However, knowledge comes easily to those who are perceptive. This means that a person who talk about others and makes fun of them believes they are wiser than most. They have an arrogance that they are never wrong and everyone must do what they say because they have all the answers. A perceptive person takes in situations before they start making decisions. They get a lay of the land and understand that no organization and no person can be handled as a group. People are individuals and must be spoken to and directed that way to be successful. That is wisdom and knowledge.

What I have learned through the years is that the person who can stop, assess, decide, and make think based on facts and not feelings shows biblical wisdom and knowledge. A person who demands answers and respect lacks both of those qualities. These people are mockers of others and are examples of what the difference is between a professing faith and a possessing faith.

The challenge that I put forth today is to make sure you are seeking biblical wisdom and knowledge. These can only come from scripture and people who are solid in their faith. (Age doesn’t matter, but it does bring credibility) I have seen much damage happen because unwise people are making decisions and then unwise people start following those decisions.

This can only change by having a spirit that is in line with God and an attitude that desires to please him before humans. Be encouraged that there are wise and knowledgeable people who want to give out biblical wisdom. These are the people who will help you grow in your faith. This is the type person you want to become in your life as well.

Tomorrow, I plan on reading Proverbs 16-18
