Answering The Lord

Today’s Reading, Job 38-39

Focal Scripture: Job 38:1-3 “Then the Lord answered Job from the whirlwind. He said: Who is this who obscures my counsel with ignorant words? Get ready to answer me like a man; when I question you, you will inform me.”

Being frustrated over circumstances is understandable. Having a verbal assault against the Lord is not. Now Job is being confronted by the Lord and the Lord is looking for answers.

This is one of those times when you need to be careful what you ask for because you just might get it in a big way. The Lord tells Job that he is obscuring his counsel with ignorant words. His speech is not honoring God and his understanding is limited. Then God tells Job to answer him like a man. God now has questions for Job.

This scene gives us a glimpse into the character of God. He knows that we are fragile and have questions. However, God is sovereign and doesn’t answer to us. We do answer to him though.

God begins to question Job about his role and where he was when God put things into motion. The creator is putting the created in his rightful place.

So what does this mean practically for believers. We should ask God questions because it helps us process. However, we shouldn’t question Gods character on why certain things take place. If any doctrine that we need to learn today is that God owes us no explanation and will do as he pleases.

The major lesson so far is this. God is good and his decisions perfect even when we don’t understand.

So if you find yourself doubting and questioning today, trust the Lord. He knows what he is doing even when it seems like our world is falling apart.

Tomorrow I plan on reading Job 40-42
